UNITED NATIONS, New York – The Qatar Fund for Development has contributed $1 million in core funds to UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. This aims to bolster UNFPA’s efforts in promoting reproductive health and utilizing population data to support sustainable development across communities worldwide, paving the way for a healthier future for women, girls and young people.
The contribution will support UNFPA’s regular resources, which are essential for the organization’s capacity to respond flexibly and effectively to emerging needs and priorities around the globe. This support will help to implement key programmes focussed on population and development, family planning, maternal health, and the empowerment of women, girls and young people in general.
“This valuable contribution is a testimony of Qatar’s strong support to UNFPA’s efforts to provide essential protection and reproductive health services to millions of women and girls in the region,” said Laila Baker, UNFPA Regional Director for Arab States. “Through our joint efforts we invest in our collective future"
The agreement marks a significant increase in Qatar’s contributions to UNFPA’s regular resources. By supporting UNFPA, the Government of Qatar is helping to address global health challenges, empower women and advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – thereby reaffirming its commitment to improving the health and well-being of those left furthest behind. The core contribution will enhance UNFPA’s ability to deliver life-saving services, drive positive change, and maintain a global presence and strategic long-term investment in the lives of women and girls.
