For the past 11 months, the situation in Palestine has continued to deteriorate, placing the lives and well-being of women and girls at grave risk. Gaza has endured relentless Israeli bombardments and ground incursions, resulting in over 40,878 deaths, 94,454 injuries, and the displacement of 1.9 million people — 90% of the population. Around 63% of structures have been damaged, with 49 million tonnes of debris generated. Continuous evacuations, affecting 86% of Gaza’s territory, have led to overcrowding, unsafe conditions, and limited access to essential services, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) support.

In addition to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, violence has also escalated in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Over 691 Palestinians have been killed and 5,700 injured since October, with Israeli settlers contributing to the displacement of Palestinian households. Movement restrictions in the West Bank have obstructed access to healthcare, humanitarian aid, and essential services, exacerbating shortages of water, fuel, and medical supplies. Military operations, such as those in Jenin, have further restricted pregnant women’s access to maternal health services, adding to the growing humanitarian concerns. Both regions are experiencing widespread devastation, with the youth disproportionately affected by violence and psychological trauma.

In August 2024, UNFPA played a key role in delivering essential SRH and GBV services across Gaza and the West Bank. This included providing critical supplies, supporting displaced populations, and coordinating efforts to ensure service continuity. UNFPA also led the implementation of MISP for SRH, collaborated with partners to streamline efforts, and strengthened GBV services through capacity building and integration into broader humanitarian responses. Additionally, UNFPA focused on youth advocacy, establishing emergency groups to address pressing needs.

As of August 2024, UNFPA had secured $36.8 million (around 41%) of the $90.2 million needed for its response.
