Chad is grappling with a severe crisis caused by extensive flooding that has affected over 1.4 million people across 23 provinces, with women and children bearing the brunt of the impact. This crisis is further intensified by regional insecurity, leading to both internal and external forced migration. Chad now hosts the seventh-largest refugee population in the world and the largest in the Sahel, with 1.2 million refugees, most of whom are women and children living in precarious conditions near borders with limited access to essential services.

UNFPA's efforts are focused on strengthening and maintaining sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services for women and girls. This includes training and deploying midwives and GBV psychosocial support workers to ensure safe childbirth and support for survivors of violence. Life-saving reproductive health supplies, including those for emergency obstetric care, have been procured and distributed to health facilities, along with essential hygiene items for women and girls. UNFPA is appealing for USD 21.1 million to provide these critical services in 2024. As of June 2024, only USD 6.6 million (32%) has been received.
