The goals of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) are reinforced by the agreements of other global United Nations conferences of the 1990s and, most recently, by the Millennium Development Declaration adopted by all 189 Member States at the Millennium Summit in September 2000. Indeed, the ICPD goals are essential for meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The ICPD challenge cannot be met without the willingness of all stakeholders - Governments, localcommunities, the non governmental sector, the international community and all concerned organizations and individuals - to turn the Cairo recommendations into action. And this cannot be done without additional and sustained resources
