The United Nations Population Award, which every year honours an individual and/or institution for outstanding contributions to population and reproductive health questions, will be presented to the 2019 laureates on 20 June at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
This year's winners are the National Peace Hut Women of Liberia, in the institutional category, and Mamadou Tangara, in the individual category.
The National Peace Hut Women of Liberia helped women and former child soldiers become agents of change in their communities following the country’s civil war. The organization also provided safe spaces for survivors of gender-based violence and rape.
Mr. Tangara has been recognized for his many contributions to promoting peace, non-violence and conflict prevention.
