This is an independent evaluation of the Maternal Health Thematic Fund (MHTF) contribution to UNFPA support to maternal health from 2008 until 2011. The mid-term evaluation assesses the potential of the MHTF to act in a catalytic manner and focuses on technical areas such as midwifery, family planning and emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC). The mid-term evaluation also covers the internal coordination and management processes of the MHTF and aspects of leveraging and visibility.
The mid-term evaluation of the Maternal Health Thematic Fund was carried out concomitantly with the thematic evaluation of UNFPA support to maternal health (2000-2011).
The purpose of the mid-term evaluation is to assess the design, coordination, and added value of the Maternal
Health Thematic Fund (MHTF) as a targeted effort to improve maternal health and to provide a set of recommendations to inform project management and policy decision making for UNFPA future support to maternal health.
The case studies presented below are independent assessments of the Maternal Health Thematic Fund (MHTF) contribution to UNFPA Support to Maternal Health.
